Questions.
How do I turn a video into a GIF?
Drop the video on the page, or choose it. The first five seconds become a GIF at once; change the start, length, width or frame rate and it is made again. Then choose Download GIF.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The GIF is made in your browser, frame by frame. The video is not sent anywhere or stored, and the page sets no cookies.
How big can a GIF be on X?
15 MB. X’s media best practices add that a GIF does best at 1280 × 1080 or smaller and 350 frames or fewer, and one GIF goes in a post.
Does LinkedIn take GIFs?
Yes. LinkedIn’s Images API takes a GIF of up to 250 frames, under 36,152,320 pixels.
Why is my GIF so big?
A GIF keeps every frame as a picture of up to 256 colours, with none of a video’s compression. A shorter clip, fewer frames a second or a narrower width makes it smaller.
Does a GIF have sound?
No. A GIF is pictures only, so the video’s sound is left out.
Which videos work?
Any video your browser can play, usually MP4, MOV and WebM. If it can’t play one, the page says so.
To post the video itself, check it first in the video checker. Every network’s photo and GIF sizes are in the social media image sizes guide, and video sizes in video specs for TikTok, X and LinkedIn.
