# How Flaghand works with YouTube

Last updated October 30, 2026

Flaghand lets you and your AI agents prepare videos, Shorts and comment replies for your own YouTube channel. An agent
can draft them. Only a workspace owner can send one to YouTube, by approving it with their passkey, one item at a time.

Flaghand uses YouTube API Services. By connecting a YouTube channel, you agree to the [YouTube Terms of
Service](https://www.youtube.com/t/terms); Google, which runs YouTube, handles your information under the [Google
Privacy Policy](http://www.google.com/policies/privacy).

YouTube isn't open to every workspace yet: Google has to review it first.

## Connecting a channel {#connect}

In Flaghand, open **Settings** and connect YouTube, or have your agent start it and open the link it gives you. Google's
sign-in opens, where you pick the channel and allow access. You type your Google password only on Google. Connecting
publishes nothing.

## Permissions we ask for {#scopes}

| Permission | What Flaghand uses it for |
|---|---|
| `youtube.force-ssl` | Reading your channel's details, what we post for you and the comment you're replying to; uploading what you approve; replying to a comment as your channel; and taking a cancelled video off YouTube's schedule. Without it, the channel doesn't connect |
| `yt-analytics.readonly` | Showing your channel's numbers in Flaghand, as YouTube's numbers, never added to or compared with another network's or another channel's. You can untick it: we don't read them, and everything else still works |

## What we do on YouTube {#on-youtube}

Only what an owner approves with their passkey, one item at a time:

- Upload your own video or Short from your Flaghand media, with the title, description, tags, category, language,
  thumbnail, visibility, time and declarations (made for kids, altered or synthetic content, paid promotion) that were
  approved.
- Reply to a comment as your channel.

Besides those, if a video YouTube holds for a later time is cancelled in Flaghand, we take it off YouTube's schedule,
and it stays on your channel, private. To change or delete a video or reply once it's posted, use YouTube.

When you approve a YouTube upload, you also certify that it complies with YouTube's Terms of Service, including its
Community Guidelines, and doesn't violate others' copyright or privacy rights.

YouTube also limits how much Flaghand can do each day for all its customers together: if that runs out when an approved
YouTube item comes due, it goes out as soon as YouTube's limit resets (midnight Pacific time), and Flaghand says so on
the post.

## What we read and keep {#data}

- **Read:** your channel's ID, name, handle and picture, and whether it's verified for videos over 15 minutes and its own
  thumbnails; each video and reply we post for you, as it appears on YouTube; the comment you're replying to, who wrote
  it and its video; and, if you allowed analytics when you connected, your channel's YouTube Analytics and its top
  videos' titles and public numbers.
- **Kept:** your channel's ID, name, handle and picture, and the IDs and links of the videos and replies we posted for
  you, encrypted with a key of that connection's own. We read them again from YouTube at least every 30 days.
- **Not kept:** everything else we read from YouTube, including comments, analytics and your videos' numbers, is used
  as it's read and not kept. Your own approved text and choices, including the link of a comment you replied to, stay
  in your approval records, which keep a coded tag in place of the channel's ID.
- **Who sees it:** the people in your workspace and the agents they connect, as far as each token's permissions allow.
- **Use:** we never sell it, use it for ads, use it to train AI models, or download videos from YouTube.

Every detail: [Privacy Policy](/privacy#youtube).

## Disconnecting and deleting {#disconnect}

- Disconnect YouTube in Settings: we delete what we keep from YouTube for that channel at once and revoke Flaghand's
  access at Google. (Google gives a channel one access however many Flaghand workspaces connect it, so while another
  workspace still connects the same channel, that access stays until the last one disconnects.)
- You can also remove Flaghand's access in your Google Account's [security
  settings](https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions), and we delete what we keep within 7 days.
- Deleting your Flaghand account deletes it at once too, and you can email support@flaghand.com to have us do it.
- Deleting Flaghand's copy changes nothing on YouTube: your videos and replies stay there, to manage in YouTube.
