# YouTube timestamp generator

https://flaghand.com/youtube-timestamp-generator reads the timestamps in a video description, or a list of chapters, and
checks them against YouTube's chapter rules: the first at 0:00, at least three, in order, and each chapter at least 10
seconds long. It shows each chapter's time, title and length (the last one's too, given the video's length), names what
to change, and copies the chapters as "0:00 Title" lines, every time in one format. It reads 0:00, 00:00, 1:02:03,
(1:23), [1:23] and "Title - 1:23". Free, no sign-up. It runs in your browser: nothing you type or add is uploaded or stored, and there is no API.

## How to use it

1. Paste the description, or write one chapter a line starting with its time.
2. Fix what it lists, then Copy timestamps and paste them into the video's description.

An agent can open it with the chapters and the video's length in the link's hash, which never reaches a server:

## Questions.

### How do I add timestamps to a YouTube video?

Put them in the video’s description, one chapter a line, each starting with its time: 0:00 Intro, then 1:05 Setup and so on. The first has to be 0:00, there have to be at least three, in order, and each chapter has to run at least 10 seconds.

### Why are my YouTube chapters not showing?

Most often a rule is broken: no 0:00 first, fewer than three timestamps, times out of order, or a chapter under 10 seconds. The generator names which. If they all pass, YouTube’s help says chapters can also be off when the channel has an active strike, when the video may be inappropriate for some viewers, or when the channel doesn’t have access to the feature yet.

### What format do YouTube timestamps use?

Minutes and seconds, 1:05, or hours, minutes and seconds, 1:02:03. The generator also reads (1:05), \[1:05\] and Title - 1:05, and copies every chapter as 0:00 Title, the way YouTube’s help shows them.

### Is my description uploaded?

No. It is read in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored, and the page sets no cookies.
