Questions.
What does this tweet preview show?
Your draft at the width of X’s home timeline, on desktop or a phone, in light or dark: your name and handle, its line breaks, links and photo crop, X’s character count and where Show more cuts it. It is Flaghand’s preview, not a screenshot from X.
How long can a post on X be?
280 characters, counted the way X counts them: every link counts as 23 and most emoji as 2. With X Premium a post can be longer; the timeline shows the first part and a Show more link.
Where does X cut a long post?
At the last space within the first 280 characters. Everything after it hides behind Show more.
How does X show a photo?
One photo keeps its own shape across the post’s width, up to 510 pixels tall on desktop. A taller photo is shown narrower rather than cropped.
Is my post uploaded?
No. The preview is drawn in your browser. Nothing you type or add is sent anywhere or stored, and the page sets no cookies.
How do I share a preview?
Copy link copies a link that opens this same preview: the text and settings ride in it after the #, which browsers never send to a server, and photos stay out. Download PNG saves the post as an image at twice its size, drawn in your browser.
Why can a line wrap one word differently than on X?
X sets posts in its own typeface, Chirp, which isn’t free to use. The preview uses your device’s own font, so a long line can wrap a word earlier or later than on X. The character count and the Show more cut don’t depend on the font.
Read the X and LinkedIn character limits guide for X’s weighted count and how longer posts hide behind Show more.
