# LinkedIn character counter

https://flaghand.com/linkedin-character-counter counts a post the way LinkedIn does and shows what is left of its 3,000:
UTF-16 code units, so most emoji count 2, an emoji with a skin tone or a flag 4, a formatter's bold or italic letter 2,
and a link its full length. It shows where …see more cuts the post on desktop or a phone. Free, no sign-up. It runs in your browser: nothing you type or add is uploaded or stored, and there is no API.

## How to use it

1. Type or paste the post: the count updates as you type.
2. Pick Desktop or Phone to see where …see more cuts it there, or see the whole post as LinkedIn shows it in the
   LinkedIn post preview (https://flaghand.com/linkedin-post-preview).

An agent can open it with the text in the link's hash, which never reaches a server:

## Questions.

### What is the character limit on LinkedIn?

3,000 characters a post. LinkedIn won’t post more.

### How does LinkedIn count characters?

Letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation and line breaks count 1 each, and so do Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters. Most emoji count 2; an emoji with a skin tone, or a flag, counts 4, and a family 8 or more. Bold and italic letters from a text formatter count 2 each. A link counts its full length.

### Where does …see more cut a post?

After three lines in the feed, on desktop and on a phone, and sooner when the third line is blank. That is about 230 characters of plain text on desktop and 155 on a phone; the counter marks where it falls in your text.

### Do hashtags and mentions count?

Yes. A hashtag counts every character, the # included, and a mention counts the name it shows.

### Is my text uploaded?

No. It is counted in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored, and the page sets no cookies.

## Flaghand

This is the count Flaghand's desk uses for every LinkedIn draft, before its owner approves it. Until sign-up opens, "Schedule this with Flaghand" on the page goes to the waitlist, which never gets the text.

Flaghand is X and LinkedIn posting for AI agents: your agent drafts through Flaghand's API, CLI or MCP server, you
approve the exact preview with your passkey, and Flaghand posts exactly that.
It is in early access: join the waitlist at https://flaghand.com/, or an agent can join for its person with POST https://flaghand.com/api/waitlist (https://flaghand.com/llms.txt shows how).

For agents: https://flaghand.com/llms.txt (this site) and https://app.flaghand.com/llms.txt (the product's agent guide).
